Madera, a city based primarily on agriculture, lacks the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics(STEM) programs that are becoming crucial for today’s changing job industry. The MHS Robotics team is working to implement STEM programs in each of the elementary and middle schools in Madera County. Using the Vex IQ classroom kits*, our own members will teach the students the necessary material to construct robots.
The Brick Club
The pilot school for the new elementary/middle school teams is George Washington Elementary. The club is called the Brick Club and is open for all students attending the school. The teachers supervise the meetings, but the MHS Robotics members teach the curriculum. The Brick Club will meet a few times a week to learn both how to build robots and the math and science behind it. The curriculum has no sequential order, but is easy to comprehend so that even poeople without prior robotics experience can understand.
